New Residents of New York

The past few months have been long. I'm not one for change--and this move was a BIG change. Now that we have found a home and are able to say good-bye to the cockroaches in our temporary apartment, I am starting to feel that our lives can move forward again.

Last week I surrendered my Utah driver's license to the DMV. I was reluctant--not so much because I was particularly attached to the pink, Utah license; but because the picture on it was taken before I had children. I knew I wouldn't fair as well this time. And I didn't.

This part of the country really is beautiful. Our new town is very small, which leaves a lot of beautiful scenery to enjoy. However, I have never raked so many leaves in my entire life. Our two, barren oak trees in W.J. never dropped enough leaves to bother. Not so in our new back yard where we have 20+ trees lining the property. We have been warned once these leaves have dropped the landscape looks pretty bleak the rest of winter.

We miss our family and friends. Thankfully, we are making new friends. Everyone from the ward has been so nice. We have been invited to many dinners and playdates. E.R. has made some friends in Primary and at school; but most of all he and A.M. have become great buddies--a fantastic bi-product of this move.

We realized just how much we took for granted living in Utah. We did not take full advantage of what there is to see and do. I guess we thought there would always be time. We do not want to make the same mistake again. We've taken a few trips to see some sites, and plan to do more. We visited R.'s sister and her family in Virginia and we took a drive up to a local fair and farmers' market. Much of the produce was sold by the Amish. It really was interesting to see where the two different worlds connect. (It felt too intrusive to take pictures though. Well, except for one.)

Welcome!

For better or worse, I have started a blog. Although I have enjoyed looking on others' blogs for quite some time, I felt my computer skills were not quite up to task for one of my own. Now, with our recent move across country, I am ready to stretch my skill set in in an effort to keep in touch with family and friends.
